While playing with sizing the ring, I noticed the description box doesn't seem to have any controls with exception to changing the background image. Here are my suggestions:

Add sizing

Add the ability to relocate where it pops up

I am still playing around with the options, so if this functionality is built it, I missed it.

I like this dock very much so far.

Cheers!

I don't know if everyone else is getting this too, but it seems that Norton is flagging this with a bad reputation and as a virus.

I come to you with this cause I wanted to let you guys know that someone, preferably a Dev needs to stop by Norton and correct this…

It is also being flagged as a medium level virus/trojan threat.

I have not seen a post about this so I believe this is new, as I have searched both your page(s) and forums and nothing on this issue has popped up…

Norton's reason for removal/quarantine: WS.Reputation.1 - Medium Trojan Threat

Source is your download link for the exe: wdfiles.com

So I don't know. However I am a risk taker but seeing as though I do not want to go through the process of re-installing windows, I will till a reply is made from DEVs only! Sorry for any inconvenience but everything is always better safe than sorry

Finally released v1.22.
Sadly one feature that should have been include was left out.
The feature was to make SliderDock stay at the desktop level(always stay behind other windows).
The reason for this is because there was a bug that I wasn't able to fix which make the icons flash when this feature is active.

So until I find a way to make it work correctly this option will not be included. I apologise to those that looked forward to this feature being included.

The name of an icon can be seen when it's on the IconSeeker, or when the mouse curser is hovering over it.
Organizing documents in docks, I'd like to see the document names (or the icon names) of all members of a dock at one sight.

This feature that is probably easy to implement would push open doors to new fields of application.

Hey there, I love the dock and use it constantly, it fills me with so much nostalgia :]
I set up my desktop to be a combination of both, (youtube.com/watch?v=q3VXtXjc-SI < Here)
Now it's very close to perfect, but I was wondering about a few features and if they can be done.

Is it possible to have the dock animated so when the dock pops up, it sort of drops form the top like it does in the game?
(Reference: youtube.com/watch?v=HDb6T8gWDtY < Here around 0:04.)
The icons wouldn't have to line up at the top, i just think a drop down similar to that would be a great aesthetic.
Also in the video, there's sound, the sliding between icons is a lot more fluid and the icons "Jiggle" a little.
I vaguely heard that audio is a problem and I'm completely okay with there being none, but if there's any possibility i'd love the other features to make my desktop 100% rock :]

This release is focused mainly on fixing the remaining bugs.
The hook problem which caused the keyboard or mouse to stop responding in SliderDock is now completely gone.
I also added an option to create blank icon if anyone needs it.

There is one remaining bug, where SliderDock doesn't accept a drag and drop but I can't find a way to replicate this on my computer and on my friend laptop.
If there is any one with this problem and willing to test the fix, please email me.
I am currently running the fix on my machine so the code is safe, I simply don't know if it actually resolve the problem or simply do nothing.

Next release will be more focused on adding new features such as adding descriptions to each icons and moving the description box around.

Certain Global Keys Fail

Because SliderDock wants to use global keys, programs that have focus are often interrupted by SliderDock's Global Key captures. So I tried changing the global keys to a combination that many (if not all) programs do not use. I tried using
Win + NumPad4
Ctrl + NumPad4
Crtl + Shift + NumPad4
Ctrl + Alt + Win + NumPad4

I even tried using NumPad4 without any modifier key just to see if it would work and that didn't even work. I should have to restart SliderDock every time the program fails to do its job, which is almost every day since I first changed the global keys (Aug 30, 2011). There are even times that I would switch it back to the default key combinations and it still fails to work. Clearly the program has a problem with an invalid hook handles.
This program is an install, not in portable mode. Version 1.20
Hopefully this will be fixed so the program does NOT have to be restarted every time it fails do to it's job, as that's only a temporary solution to a constant problem.

Here is my error log:
Microsoft Windows NT 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1

8/30/2011 3:56:36 PM
couldn't remove the mouse global hook
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Invalid hook handle

8/30/2011 4:03:54 PM
couldn't remove the keyboard global hook
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Invalid hook handle

9/2/2011 8:05:19 PM
couldn't remove the keyboard global hook
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Invalid hook handle

It would be awesome if there was an option for creating shortcut icons for different rings.
instead of browsing through all my 5 rings, I would place 5 icons in the main ring and directly select the one I'm interested in
OR
converting folders to rings. I would place, lets say, mydocuments in the ring. when selected, a new ring would open, containing all the documents as objects (rather then opening the folder in the browser).
that would be legendary!
btw. SLIDERDOCK ROCKS :)
thanks a lot!

I installed SD, but it didn't work (didn't disappear when program launched; graphics broke up; finally just wouldn't function at all). I ran the app's unistall program off the WinXP program menu; but now the ring of icons is floating in the middle of my desktop with no functionality. CTR-SPACE doesn't hide it; it occasionally plops down on top of running programs. How can I get rid of this beast?

There was a bug in 1.19 that prevented the previous/next keyboard shortcut to work properly.
This bug was caused because I was trying to improve the way the shortcuts work, but when I noticed it wasn't functionning properly, I reverted back but I must have forgotten to save because it was still there in the last release.
Since I mostly use my mouse to interact with SliderDock, I didn't notice the bug.

I fixed that in 1.20.

V1.19 is out.

it is a minor update mainly made to fix a bug where SliderDock would crash if auto update is on and no internet connection is found.

But beside this, it is now possible to create an icon from a URL link dragged from your web browser to SliderDock.

Also for new users, when launching SliderDock, 4 icons will be loaded by default.
I hope this will alleviate the misunderstanding between creating a new ring and an icon.

A customizable combination of 2 hot keys. Holding them down for a moment will make the icon seeker automatically appear directly underneath the cursor. Then the user can just simply scroll to the program he likes. But of course the scrolling requires the hot keys still held down. Releasing the hot keys will hide the docklet again.

I think this will be quite useful for those who multi-task speedily. It might be similar to "make dock appear on top" feature, but then this suggestion makes the dock appear directly under the mouse and also will autohide when the combinations are unpressed. It's more practical.

I was hoping to be able to put my games in a separate ring ("inside" the main ring) as putting it all in one ring is just plain too much, and constantly having to use the "select ring" option is annoying.

Could you please make it so that one can display more than one ring (each with individual sizes)?
Hey! First of all, I love slider dock! I use it like crazy and can't wait to see a Linux version if your planning on making one. Anyway, I had a thought for an addition to slider dock. I think you should add an optional, customizable button in the center that when its clicked it would act like the start button for Windows. If you remember in .hack//GU the ring rotated around a little ball in the center of it. I think that would make a great addition. :) Just a thought.

My current working condition: I use a dual screen setup, running Windows 7 and I place the SliderDock at the center of my left screen adjusted manually.

Problems: Locking it in position it seems fine, but after I reboot, it seems that SliderDock goes into hidden mode and once I call it up again it would be at another position of my screen where I hadn't set it to be. I found the problem also occurs when I've adjusted the position of SliderDock, locked position and hiding it. After I unhide the SliderDock, it goes back to another position.

So I was wondering if the Lock Position Function uses like only locking in current position without saving coordinates or some other methods to lock in place such that after a reboot it'll go to another position. I haven't got the problem with the previous version where the lock function wasn't introduced, the only times that it shifts is that I've accidentally shifted it myself.

Thanks for the hard work.

This version bring it's share of new features.

Now it's possible to name each ring to easily distinguish them.
There is 3 new option in the right click menu of the IconSeeker.
The first one called "select ring" : like the name implies it let you change the current visible ring by selecting it's name.
The second one is the "Lock SliderDock's position" which disable the ability to move the dock around.
The third one is called "Help" and will simply open a page to the tutroial section of this website.

The option windows has been improved to resize itself in order to show all options available without having to scroll down.
There is now an option that will check for new versions automatically.
In the "appearance" tab previously called theme, there is a new option to select the font type.
The first time it is opened, it is a bit slow to load afterward it will be fast to reopen.
In "Controls" tab, there's a new option called "animation quality".
This option let you choose how smooth the rotations of the icons are.

Dragging an icon and dropping it into another icon will now move the dragged icon next to it's target instead of swapping the icons around.
I believe this will be much better to reorganize the icons.

For advanced user only:

On windows vista and 7, dragging an icon from your desktop into the IconSeeker while holding the "ctrl" button will retrieve the HD icon from the file.

But there is a bug when the icon doesn't possess an HD icon, then it will return a low quality icon in the top left corner of a blank HD icon.

I haven't found a way to correctly retrieve the low quality icon which is the reason for the "ctrl" button.

So I decided to do an alternative hexagon for this cool app. Something I whipped up in photoshop in an hour, feel free to use as you wish. :)

Right click Save As
Hexagon
Seeker

I am having a problem with the keyboard shortcuts. Lately, whenever I push my enter key, the icon that is selected opens but this is happening even if I am not focused on the slider dock. This opens whatever is in the seeker area. Kind of a pain when your working on anything else.

Is there no way to disable them?

Good job at keeping this project running all these years. Anyway, I would like to request that the rings be selected from the right click menu. It does not need to have unique names yet, just something like ring 1,2,3,4, etc. This would help make it more organized and allow to get to the specific ring faster.

Again, thank you very much for keeping this project ongoing and keeping it free. Also, if this sugestion is taken, might I also requst that unique names be allowed to be given to the dock and eventually having an inner ring which is used strictly for selecting the required ring at a later date.

I love this program so much. Thanks for creating it. A few things I'd like to see in the next version.

1. I'd love for the program icons to disapear, leaving only the Icon seeker when Slider Dock is not in use. There is no functional purpose for this, but it would make your desktop look cooler.

2. I'd like to see an option to create multiple Icon seekers on the same desktop so that, for example, I could have one for my games and one for my art programs. Now I know you can use the middle mouse button to cycle through multiple rings, and that is cool, but I think it would be neat to have this option if you wanted it.

3. I'd like to see an option to lable different rings…for example, when I select my games ring, "Games" would appear in the center or something like that.

I hope you are able to use some of these ideas.

Also, is there a way to donate here. I'd love to finance this project in some small way.

I love the functionality of this app but it runs inconsistently on my computer. Sometimes it will load at start and sometimes it won't. Most of the time when it loads it takes a good twenty minutes to show up on my desktop. It will also disappear when I run certain programs like burning a DVD. for instance. Any help would be appreciated! Win7 64 bit.
