While playing with sizing the ring, I noticed the description box doesn't seem to have any controls with exception to changing the background image. Here are my suggestions:

Add sizing

Add the ability to relocate where it pops up

I am still playing around with the options, so if this functionality is built it, I missed it.

I like this dock very much so far.

Cheers!

Forum category: forum Discussion / Suggestions
Forum thread: Description Box

Hi
1) I tried the shortcuts and it seems many win + keys are taken by windows and the OS doesn't let other apps use them.
win key + e opens my computer, I'm not sure what win key+ home does though.
I also tried a few others, and some do works like win key + a or win key + c.

2) to change rings, you need to middle mouse click or do you mean rotating the icons?
There is a bug on laptops that make SliderDock behave strangely but this should be fixed with the newest version (v1.22).

3) I'm not sure why this problem happens for you, on my pc it works correctly. Are you sure SliderDock isn't stuck under the browser or does it not appear at all, sometimes always on top can be a bit temperamental and I haven't found a way to fix this yet.

Forum category: forum Discussion / Bugs
Forum thread: Multiple problems

Hi!
I'm customizing my desktop, it is almost like ALTIMIT-MINE OS.
The only thing missing is the sound.
You say that it crashes, but could it be some kind of format issue? you know, mp3, wav, RAW, etc.? It would be excellent if it had sound effects, kind of, the ultimate Sliderdock.
It is almost perfect, congratulations!
Greetings from Argentina

Forum category: forum Discussion / Suggestions
Forum thread: SFX?

adbrown, you are perfectly right to be careful when you see a potential problem with an application you just downloaded.
That said norton had the worst reputation for a long time. I heard recently they improved their antivirus a bit but is still way behind what other antivirus, even the free ones, can offer.

after searching a bit for "ws.Reputation.1 - Medium Trojan Thread" I found this :
http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Clarification-on-WS-Reputation-1-detection/m-p/232155#U232155

ws.Reputation.1 is not a virus warning but simply an application that have low reputation among norton's user.
My guess for this low rating is that noone voted for SliderDock therefore the lack of rating caused the warning.

also many user and developer complained about this here :
http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/What-is-WS-Reputation-1/td-p/228251/page/11

I suggest you to scan the download file online just to make sure for yourself.
I tried to scan the file with http://www.viruschief.com/index.html and it return nothing found.
I also personally use avast and of course I use SliderDock myself everyday, so I assure you there is no virus in it.

Forum category: forum Discussion / Bugs
Forum thread: WS.Reputation.1

I don't know if everyone else is getting this too, but it seems that Norton is flagging this with a bad reputation and as a virus.

I come to you with this cause I wanted to let you guys know that someone, preferably a Dev needs to stop by Norton and correct this…

It is also being flagged as a medium level virus/trojan threat.

I have not seen a post about this so I believe this is new, as I have searched both your page(s) and forums and nothing on this issue has popped up…

Norton's reason for removal/quarantine: WS.Reputation.1 - Medium Trojan Threat

Source is your download link for the exe: wdfiles.com

So I don't know. However I am a risk taker but seeing as though I do not want to go through the process of re-installing windows, I will till a reply is made from DEVs only! Sorry for any inconvenience but everything is always better safe than sorry

Forum category: forum Discussion / Bugs
Forum thread: WS.Reputation.1

Finally released v1.22.
Sadly one feature that should have been include was left out.
The feature was to make SliderDock stay at the desktop level(always stay behind other windows).
The reason for this is because there was a bug that I wasn't able to fix which make the icons flash when this feature is active.

So until I find a way to make it work correctly this option will not be included. I apologise to those that looked forward to this feature being included.

Forum category: forum Discussion / Announcements
Forum thread: SliderDock v1.22

Great! I appreciate your consideration.

Let me add some compliments about your work: Here's some of the current features I appreciate the most:
Adjustable ring size and icon size.
The two-dimensional design - multiple, named rings to cycle through.
The convenient information provided while navigating in SliderDock. Such as the title of the current ring popping up and fading out.
Shortcut keys!
Shortcut keys without printable character. I use Ctrl and Alt for cycling through the rings.
Ease of use with drag and drop for adding icons and changing icons order.
High performance and small footprint.
The most toughtful design I've found amongst docks - very clearly laid out and easy to focus.

Your software helps me to do my work more efficiently. I'm recommending it to my colleagues at work, even more emphatically with its increasing versatility I hope to find in v.1.23.

Forum category: forum Discussion / Suggestions
Forum thread: Always show icon tooltips

From all docks I have tested, SliderDock was the only one that suits my professional needs more or less, and I've tested many of them. Please note that I'm not nagging about - I'm trying to get the best I've found improved further.

Causes problems? Possibly, yes. Depends on how one uses SliderDock. As an optional feature (or even a per-ring option, or on a hotkey, …) it won't bother those who use rings crowded to the extreme.

People in forums still keep complaining about Windows 7, because there's not decent way of organizing the most used documents anymore. On Windows XP one could arrange the icon in any folder freely like snippets on a desk. SliderDock will be an attractive solution to everyone who needs to work with documents effeciently, once an 'always show tooltips' option is available.

Please take a look at the overlay picture on mediafire.com in the folder /i/?3sts938f94jow0x
The mouse cursor has always entered the the icon from the top right. Looks tidy to me.

Forum category: forum Discussion / Suggestions
Forum thread: Always show icon tooltips

Hey there, I love the dock and use it constantly, it fills me with so much nostalgia :]
I set up my desktop to be a combination of both, (youtube.com/watch?v=q3VXtXjc-SI < Here)
Now it's very close to perfect, but I was wondering about a few features and if they can be done.

Is it possible to have the dock animated so when the dock pops up, it sort of drops form the top like it does in the game?
(Reference: youtube.com/watch?v=HDb6T8gWDtY < Here around 0:04.)
The icons wouldn't have to line up at the top, i just think a drop down similar to that would be a great aesthetic.
Also in the video, there's sound, the sliding between icons is a lot more fluid and the icons "Jiggle" a little.
I vaguely heard that audio is a problem and I'm completely okay with there being none, but if there's any possibility i'd love the other features to make my desktop 100% rock :]

Forum category: forum Discussion / Suggestions
Forum thread: A couple of aesthetic suggestions

It only goes in one direction. Since it does exist (I previously didn't know it was there because of the way my mouse functions), perhaps add a modifier key to allow a reverse in direction while the modifier key is pressed? Though personally, I prefer using the scroll mouse instead of the middle mouse button. The mouse I use (Logitech VX Nano) does not have a "middle" button, per se but a "document flip" button, which must be configured specifically for a program to use the middle mouse button function instead of the document flip (default). It's such a bother to reconfigure the mouse for specific applications. Pushing on the mouse wheel only releases from the usual clicks you hear from a regular mouse scroll wheel and makes the wheel free spin, or "hyper scrolling" as Logitech put it.
I believe changing from using the middle mouse button to using the scroll wheel would be much more compatible for mice that do not follow the "scroll wheel as the middle button" setting.

Forum category: forum Discussion / Bugs
Forum thread: Certain Global Keys Fail

Actually I was talking about adding the Ctrl+Mouse Scroll Wheel feature internally like the Mouse Scroll Wheel event, not as a user configurable option.
I read somewhere on the forum that it was coded in C#. Maybe using "Control.ModifierKeys" in the MouseWheel event will help you.
Something like (and of course it is a generalized idea):

if(Control.ModifierKeys == Keys.Control) { //code here }

I'd really like to be able to see Ctrl+Scroll as a usable feature.

Forum category: forum Discussion / Bugs
Forum thread: Certain Global Keys Fail

After restarting SliderDock, the Ctrl modifiers with the number pad keys worked. But sometimes the SliderDock doesn't want to respond after a while. (Maybe from putting the computer to Sleep?)
The only thing that continues to work is the Mouse's Scroll Wheel. Because the Scroll Wheel seems to work 99.9% of the time, would it be possible to also include code to allow the use of the Scroll Wheel (with a modifier key, like Ctrl or Alt) to switch rings (or is that the alternative way you are talking about in the second post?).

Forum category: forum Discussion / Bugs
Forum thread: Certain Global Keys Fail

Because SliderDock wants to use global keys, programs that have focus are often interrupted by SliderDock's Global Key captures. So I tried changing the global keys to a combination that many (if not all) programs do not use. I tried using
Win + NumPad4
Ctrl + NumPad4
Crtl + Shift + NumPad4
Ctrl + Alt + Win + NumPad4

I even tried using NumPad4 without any modifier key just to see if it would work and that didn't even work. I should have to restart SliderDock every time the program fails to do its job, which is almost every day since I first changed the global keys (Aug 30, 2011). There are even times that I would switch it back to the default key combinations and it still fails to work. Clearly the program has a problem with an invalid hook handles.
This program is an install, not in portable mode. Version 1.20
Hopefully this will be fixed so the program does NOT have to be restarted every time it fails do to it's job, as that's only a temporary solution to a constant problem.

Here is my error log:
Microsoft Windows NT 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1

8/30/2011 3:56:36 PM
couldn't remove the mouse global hook
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Invalid hook handle

8/30/2011 4:03:54 PM
couldn't remove the keyboard global hook
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Invalid hook handle

9/2/2011 8:05:19 PM
couldn't remove the keyboard global hook
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: Invalid hook handle

Forum category: forum Discussion / Bugs
Forum thread: Certain Global Keys Fail
