[edit]

After thinking…

If SliderDock's DescriptionBox could become the current window (front window) when opened, I think that would block the keys for other (background) windows.

Hi CoderOmega!

Thanks for this fast reply! I really appreciate that!

I don't know how difficult it is to block keys. I understand that the way SD is made without a main Windows, the key block becomes more difficult. Maybe an option where SD opens with a Windows, which would make things less sexy, but would ensure a stable key-block, would solve the problem. Anyway, if you consider to make this key-block happen, I volonteer to test on Win7 and Win XP !

This feature is really a must for my HTPC use.

Cheers!

This bug is a known issue.

Originally SliderDock was able to catch and block the shortcut keys but the code was unstable so i went with a new method that is more stable but is unable to block keys.

I haven't found found a way to do so yet so this bug currently remain.

I will check if it is possible to add the esc button and add bigger icons.
I am not sure what you mean by different font though.

The font size is a bit more tricky as the whole ID box would need to be resized too.

Hi,

First of all, thanks for this application! It's a great job, it does just what it should in a shiny way !
However, as I use it with the keyboard, I experience some problems due to the fact SliderDock doesn't become the current window when opened.

The problem is: if you open SliderDock pressing Ctrl+Space, and I use the keyboard to control it, the keyboard commands are also perceived by the (real) current application. These commands can create unexpected behaviors in the background application. With the default shortcut keys, it doesn't pose any problem, most of the time. Now if you like to assign some simpler keys like the normal left, right and enter keys, you start really launching and controlling the wrong stuff in the background application. As a result, the choice of keys is limited to shortcuts that are not used anywhere else.

It would be very much appreciated if: SliderDock, once opened, get and keep all the keystrokes for himself as long as it is open… and keep to front of the screen (it becomes the current window)

In my case, it is a real issue because I would like to use SliderDock to launch applications on my HTPC with a remote-control. My remote control emulates the left/right/up/down/enter and ctrl+space keys. So I can successfully open and control SliderDock for that use with that remote. However, as the left/right/enter keep triggering the background application, I get many unexpected actions poping up by doing so.
As a result, for that very simple reason, SliderDock is not useable in a HTPC system.

If I may ask… For an HTPC use, Slider dock would also benefit from supporting (even) bigger icons… And I'd like the ESC key to close SliderDock when opened… and allowing different font sizes…

Is there any chance you might be able to recreate the good old grey bar of which I absolutely loved while playing dot hack G.U. which would store the run options, properties and settings derived from within the item in the seeker.

I think this object is just what the world needs from the next evolution of dock.

But, I don't wan't to impose too much though as I don't know the limitation of the code.

I'm not a programmer, just a graphic artist.

And a continuing supporter of this wondrous gift you've made.

Hi and thanks for your words of appreciation.
I am not 100% sure if it is possible but I prefer not to add this feature because it can cause some major problems.
Let's say for example that the application that SliderDock opened freezes, now that both application are linked, both freeze possibly making the whole computer slow or unresponsive.
The opposite where for any reason SliderDock would freeze would cause the same effect.

yes there is a limiter of 40 icons per ring,
The reason I did this is because once there is more icons, they start to be on top of each other and it becomes more difficult to click on a specific one.
Though I can add an option to unlock this.

Hey again,

I forgot to add in my previous post: awesome piece of software! Simply genius! :DD

As I posted in my previous thread (question regarding # max of icons/ring):
I use SliderLock as a launcher for my arcade cab.

That means the screen in my cab run in very low res!! 640x240 is the max I can obtain without using driver/hardware tricks.

So here are the two remaining problems that I have right now (they are linked to my very low res):

1) I can't place the ring wherever I want.
The 240pixel height is quite small. I wouldn't mind the top of the ring to disappear above the top of my screen.
But SliderLock won't let me do that.
If I move the ring too high, it moves back down immediately :(.
So I can see the top of the ring, but the launcher disappear below the bottom of my screen.

As the launcher is on the bottom part of the screen, you can see where my problem lies.

2) A tick box allowing me to lock once and for all the position of my ring once it is setup.

You'd make my year by implementing these 2 features :D.

Yours,
—Jay

Hi,

Quick question:
Is there a limit to the number of icons per ring? I seem to be locked at 40.

Oh and there will probably be a follow up question like: if there is such a limit, could you unlock/remove it? :)

I am a new user to sliderlock.

The way I use it might be completely different from what you guys are used to but I hope my problems and/or sugestions will still find an ear to listen to them!

I use it as a way to launch different roms using different mame version. Basically one icon=one rom to launch.
I use different rings for the different type of games: platformer, puzzle, shoot'em up, …

Yours,
—Jay
